GG is a new non-profit organization, focused on helping men & those whom identify as a male, find resources and support to help them through:
While helping out some male friends navigate through divorce and parenting rights, it became aware to me (the founder) that British Columbia is seriously lacking support for men.
One of these men told me about his situation at home between he and his wife. I responded "you know that's abuse...right? Just because it's coming from a female, doesn't make it any less abusive. This same man mentioned how he had tried to commit suicide. He tried to find support in the legal system, but unfortunately because he makes 'too much money', he isn't able to get help. Imagine this scenario: Wife has wealthy parents. Wife is then able to afford top-notch lawyers. Wife barely pays the household bills, if any. Husband pays for the majority of the household bills including the rent, and now has to factor in child support, and the costs to move out on his own, during a pandemic, in one of the most expensive provinces to live in. He's already putting in over time at work, just to make these obligations.
But guess what? Over time hours boosts his paycheck, thus resulting in more child support. How can he afford a lawyer on top of it all? Between the wife's threats to bankrupt him if they get divorced, to threatening to never see their child until she reaches of age, to the abuse he endured every day when he got home from work, he strongly felt that his only way out was death. What's the point on living, if this is what his life is going to be like?
Another man casually mentioned that he is going to be a first time father and wanted to attend classes. A 'What to expect when you're expecting" - men's edition. He came up empty handed in his search.
" Male suicide rates in Canada are high and rising. Men are three times more likely to take their own lives than females, says Statistics Canada".
"The suicide rate grows more shocking among certain male subgroups, particularly those who are homosexual, Indigenous, transgendered, in the military, middle-aged or going through divorce, according to peer-reviewed research by Ogrodniczuk, John Oliffe, David Kealy and others."

" Men comprise about 20% of all IPV cases reported to police in Canada and about 20% of IPV homicide victims (Burczycka and Conroy 2018; Conroy 2021). "
"In 2019, this amounted to 23,146 men (Conroy 2021)."

"The rate of IPV reported to police by men and boys has increased over the past five years; between 2018 and 2019 the number of cases reported by men increased by 10%, while the number reported by women decreased by 5% (Conroy 2021Footnote22). Between 2009 and 2019, the number of reported cases of IPV decreased less than the number of reported cases of non-IPV (-6% versus -14%; Conroy, 2021)."

"Men are less likely than women to report IPV to police, and when they do, it is less likely to result in an arrest or police record (Dutton 2012). In one Canadian study, 64% of male survivors of IPV who called police reported being treated as the abuser (Dutton 2012)."

"While Indigenous women represent 21% of female victims of intimate partner homicide, Indigenous males represent a much larger proportion (44%) of male victims of intimate partner homicide (Conroy 2021)."

"According to police-reported data, an annual average of more than 2,300 incidents of IPV involving same-sex partners occurred in Canada between 2009 and 2017. Of these incidents, 55% involved a male victim and a male accused (Ibrahim 2019)."
